Gone are the days when the bars were supplied by 30 liter beer kegs emptying in minutes. With teams overwhelmed by too much handling. Since 2015the twenties counters managed by the Hellfest team, are directly fed by pipelines. Of the pipeline-beer in jargon. In total, 4km cross the site, including two-thirds underground. A real labyrinth. In permanent activity, which avoids the rupture.

23,000 liter tanks stored

At the beginning of pipethem cisterns. Stored in different stitches behind the scenes of the festival. “There are 15 of 23,000 liters”, explains Quentin Vallier, one of the pillars of the bar management supervised by Yoann Le Nevé. are added 1000 liter tanks also scattered everywhere. Of the points where are they going also refuel the thirst quenchers and the beercyclettesthose people who, walk for the first and by bike for the latter, go, directly on site, to serve the festival-goers.

In total, these are therefore nearly 440,000 liters that have passed during a festival weekend (i.e. 880,000 pints or more‘1.7 million halves). A consumption to the measure of a festival excessive.

This volume is delivered by Kronenbourghistorical partner, who comes well in advance of the concerts on the site, installed its cisternsbut also its piping which is removed at the end of the edition (only the scabbards remain).

2000 volunteers

At this material logisticsis added a human coordination. “More than 2000 volunteers run the bars,” summarizes Bubuche, other experienced manager who returns, each year, from his Reunion Islandso as not to miss this meeting he has been seeing for 15 years. “Unlike other missions, this management is not entrusted to associations. We count a forty referees who are each responsible for build their teamadds Quentin Vallier. ” There are few turnovers so much experience. It is the same people, sometimes whole families, who come back. There are bartendersof the studentsof the osteoof the directors… ». Volunteers who can also be found at cup cleaning. “People are responsible for recovering, those who are abandoned. They are washed and returned to service. This avoids the wasteexplains the production.

A dozen coordinators

Above his teams, a dozen coordinators deal with difficulties as soon as they arise. They are there from 7 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. “So almost 24 hours a day”, smiled Quentin Vallier. Because, at the end of the concerts, another music begins : “we look at the level of cisterns and they are moved according to consumption”, explains Bubuche. “From one edition to another, the bars that consume the most change. We adapt”. A company is in charge of this ballet in the middle of the night.

But Hellfest isn’t just about beer. It is also of the water. Especially for the first weekend.28,000 liters were consumed in bottles instead of the usual 14,000”, observes Quentin Vallier. Another Atlantique partner in Nantes has enabled them to supply them with emergency. Same for some carbonated drinks who were in rupture : the festival strength allowed to avoid any lack. About fifteen soda are served on site. The festival-goers will have understood that they are not not ready to die of thirst.
