Shopify s’allie avec Crypto.com pour proposer les paiements en crypto

Shopify teams up with Crypto.com to offer crypto payments

Thanks to a recent collaboration with the Crypto.com platform, Shopify customers can now pay in cryptocurrency.

Shopify has just joined the list of partner companies of Crypto.com Pay, the Singapore-based exchange’s crypto payment solution. In addition to Cronos (CRO), the native token of its partner, the e-commerce platform now supports 20 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB) and ApeCoin (APE).

As explained in an official press release, this new partnership could help Shopify grow its business, attracting more merchants to its platform. Hence, this could boost the adoption of crypto, as let us recall, Shopify has over 1 million registered stores globally.

On the other hand, this partnership will allow Crypto.com to expand its user base. In order to appeal to Shopify merchants, the exchange is offering a 0.5% fee reduction on all crypto payments for a month.

A way out of the crisis for Crypto.com?

When they first launched, Crypto.com credit cards, created in partnership with Visa, offered some pretty cool rewards. But lately, the company reversed these benefits, causing its native Cronos (CRO) token to drop in price. Of course, this decision sparked the anger of some users who strongly criticized the platform on social networks.

A short time later, Crypto.com suffered an attack that resulted in heavy losses estimated at several million dollars. This new partnership with Shopify could therefore help Crypto.com to finally turn this bad page.

Crypto.com gives no respite and continues to conquer the crypto market. To achieve its ends, the crypto company has signed several sports sponsorship partnerships. It recently became the official sponsor of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Shopify strengthens its presence in the crypto universe

This isn’t Shopify’s first move into the world of digital assets. Indeed, the Canadian e-commerce company recently partnered with crypto payment platform Strike to integrate Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. Thanks to this agreement, American merchants will be able to receive their payments in a much faster and easier way.

The current market drop does not affect Shopify’s optimism about the use of cryptocurrencies. According to the company, 25% of the world’s population could access BTC through its platform.

Shopify even has a department focused on blockchain technologies. Its director, John S. Lee, welcomed this new partnership with Crypto.com:

“We’re happy to help Shopify merchants provide customers with another quick and convenient way to pay for their online orders. Our growing blockchain ecosystem demonstrates our commitment to supporting merchants with alternative payment methods and expanding the possibilities of commerce.”

However, the integration of crypto payments on Shopify has not been without drawbacks. For example, customers whose Trezor and Ledger wallet data was stolen through the platform were not notified for a week, despite Shopify being well aware of the situation.
