AS Monaco would like to salute Djibril Sidibé for his five seasons in the Monegasque jersey. Five intense seasons during which the defender contributed to the team’s results – 2017 Champion, podiums in 2018, 2021 and 2022 – and to the conquest of the title of World Champion with the Blues under the colors of Monaco.
2016-2022: in six years in the jersey of AS Monaco, only interspersed with a loan to Everton (2019-2020), the French international actively participated in the successes of the team, playing nearly 180 matches with the Reds and Whites.
Arrived from LOSC in the summer of 2016 in a team that remained on three consecutive podiums, Djibril Sidibé immediately imposed himself on the right side of the defense, like this successful full match against Paris SG at the end of August ( 3-1 victory, 2 assists), and participated in the exceptional 2016-2017 season of the Monegasques.
In the standard team for the 2016-17 season
Taking part in 47 official matches, the native of Troyes proved decisive throughout a year that will remain historic. In addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and the final of the Coupe de la Ligue, AS Monaco won its eighth title of Champion of France.
At the end of this exercise, Djibril is naturally elected best right side of the championship. Five of his teammates also appear in the typical team during the UNFP trophy ceremony.
He has established himself during this season as one of the best in his position. Already a reservist during Euro 2016, Didier Deschamps called on him in September of the same year and established him from his first selection against Italy in a friendly.
Still as regular during the 2017-2018 season (2 goals, 8 assists), the French international fully contributed to the second place acquired by AS Monaco and to the qualification of the Blues for the 2018 World Cup. alongside his Monegasque teammate Thomas Lemar and his former protege in the Principality Kylian Mbappé.
Then the youngest player to wear the Diagonal jersey (16 years and 11 months), Kylian Mbappé grew up quickly on the Rock, notably following the advice of the one he nicknamed “uncle Djib”.
This role, supervising the youngest, the defender trained in Troyes continues to play it on his return from his loan in England to Everton, under the orders of Carlo Ancelotti, to accompany the young generation of Monaco (Tchouameni, Fofana, Diop, Disasi, Badiashile …). He also chained the matches and AS Monaco took the opportunity to sign two consecutive podiums (2021, 2022).
In five seasons, Djibril Sidibé has scored 174 games for AS Monaco, 6 goals and 23 assists in five seasons. Champion in 2017, he also participated in the three seasons completed on the podium (2018, 2021, 2022) and in Cup adventures (final Coupe de la Ligue 2017, 2018, final Coupe de France 2021).
