Although not as famous as his late colleague Jean-Pierre Pernaut, the journalist Catherine Matausch has the same longevity that the emblematic former presenter of the JT of 1 p.m. TF1 at his post on France 3. Indeed, the presenter is at the helm of the 19/20 of the public channel every weekend since 1987. However, like Jean-Pierre Pernaut, Catherine Matausch was also forced to temporarily withdraw from the antenna between the months of March and May 2022. She explained the reason in an interview with the magazine TV Major Channels Monday, June 20, 2022.
In fact, as Jean-Pierre Pernaut in 2018who had to leave the 1 p.m. newscast TF1 because of her prostate cancer, Catherine Matausch revealed that she also suffered from cancer. “Life has been complicated for a year and a half. I chained several sick leaves because, among other things, of lung cancer“, explained the journalist. As a reminder, Jean-Pierre Pernaut died of lung cancer at the age of 71 on March 2, 2022. “It’s good to talk about it, as he did. I am talking about it here for the first time. In my case, fortunately, the disease is not at the same stage and has been treated in time“, also added Catherine Matausch, while specifying to be better today.

During this same interview, the presenter explained that she had to face many difficult challenges in his personal life in recent years. She notably lost her mother in 2021.”I went through moments of great loneliness. A still life. It was not fun for me, who needs nature and wanderings…“said the host, who has also separated from her husband. “LCI had offered me an info section. A nice offer. I had even signed the contract. It didn’t happen in the end: I was in the middle of a divorce, it was complicated. I chose my children and stability“, revealed Catherine Matausch, who should continue to present the 19/20 every weekend on France 3 next season.
